Basecamp integration setup

Introduction to Basecamp integration setup

Basecamp provides an application program interface (API) that lets your Basecamp project team view and review proofs using the ProofHQ interface. First, you set up integration between ProofHQ and Basecamp on two levels:
  • An administrator enters the address (URL) for your Basecamp account into your ProofHQ account (in Account Settings)
  • If you are a proof creator/owner, you copy your personal Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings to connect with your Basecamp account

Then, if you are a proof creator/owner, you connect each proof with a specific project in your Basecamp account. See Basecamp proof setup

Finally, reviewers open the proof in Basecamp (from messages) and add comments and decisions to the proof page. See Basecamp - reviewing a proof.

For an overview of Basecamp integration with ProofHQ, see Basecamp.

This demo shows the Account Settings and Personal Settings setup steps:

Account-level setup in Account Settings

To integrate your ProofHQ account, at organisational level, you must have the profile of a Creator, a Billing Administrator, or an Administrator in ProofHQ. To integrate your ProofHQ account with Basecamp:
  • Go to the Integrations tab in Account Settings
  • Enable the Basecamp interface for your account by clicking the Enable link
  • The empty Basecamp URL field will appear
  • To enter the URL for your Basecamp account click the Edit link
  • Enter or paste the Basecamp URL (without the http://) for your account in the Basecamp URL field and click Save.
Your ProofHQ account will now be integrated with your Basecamp account. Continue with Individual user setup in Personal Settings

NB: If you can't enable Basecamp integration, your ProofHQ account ID might not be the same as the account ID you use in Basecamp.

Individual user setup in Personal Settings

After an administrator has set up Basecamp integration for your ProofHQ account, proof owners need to set up Basecamp integration for themselves in Personal Settings.

To set up Basecamp integration for yourself at the individual level:
  • Copy your Basecamp API token from Basecamp
  • Paste your Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings
NB: Completing these steps is easiest if you have your Basecamp session open in one browser window and your ProofHQ session open in another window.

Copy your Basecamp API token from Basecamp

You need your individual authentication token for the Basecamp API to be able to complete integration at the individual level in ProofHQ.

To get your Basecamp API token:
  • Sign in to your Basecamp account if you do not already have a session open.
  • Click the My Info link next to your name at the top of the screen. Your My Info page is displayed.
  • In the Authentication tokens section, click Show your tokens to display your personal authentication tokens.
  • Select the Token for feed readers or the Basecamp API and then select Copy from the right-click menu or press Ctrl-C to copy the token to the clipboard.
  • Paste your Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings (see below).

Paste your Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings

To paste the Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings:
  • Go to the Integrations tab in your Personal Settings
  • Basecamp integration was previously enabled at the account level by an administrator, but the Basecamp URL and your Basecamp API Token fields are blank. You must provide your personal authentication token before the Basecamp URL for your account appears in this tab.
  • To enter your Basecamp API token click the Edit link
  • Enter or paste the Basecamp API token that you just copied from your Basecamp My Info page into the entry field and then click Save
  • The Basecamp URL for your account appears either immediately or after you return to this page
Your ProofHQ Personal Settings are now integrated with your Basecamp account. Continue with Basecamp proof setup
