Roles on a Proof

Proof roles

Proof “Roles” let you set different permissions for people invited to review a proof.

The Roles that are available are:
  • Read Only
  • Reviewer
  • Approver
  • Reviewer & Approver
  • Authors *
  • Moderators *

* Authors and Moderators need to be users of ProofHQ

Read Only

Can read a proof but not add comments or mark-ups

Approver

Can make a Decision on a proof but not make comments or mark-ups

Reviewer

Can add comments and mark-ups, but cannot make a Decision (default Decision is Not Relevant)

Reviewer & Approver

Can add comments and mark-ups and make a Decision

Authors

Can add comments and mark-ups and make a Decision. Can also use the Add People and New Version functions. If they upload a new version they will become the owner of the new proof, unless the "Copy owner from original proof" setting in the account has been enabled. See Personal Settings.

NB: Must be a ProofHQ user in order to be given the author role.

Moderators

Can add comments and mark-ups and make a Decision. Can use the Add People function. Can delete everyone's comments and replies.

NB: Must be a ProofHQ user in order to be given the moderator role.

Creators and Owners

The Creator is the person who uploaded the proof. The Creator is normally the Owner as well, however, a Creator can make someone else the Owner when initially creating the proof (on the New proof page) or once the proof has been created. See How to change the owner of a proof.

Difference between Proof Roles and User Profiles

The role you have on a proof defines the actions you can (are able to) take in relation to that proof. For example, if you are a Reviewer you are being asked to review the proof. If you are a Reviewer & Approver you are being asked to review and make a decision.

Your user profile relates to the overall permission level you have in your account. Your user profile will affect the rights you have over all proofs in your account, even those which have not explicitly been shared with you. See Profiles & Permissions.
