Basecamp proof setup

Introduction to Basecamp proof setup

When you set up Basecamp integration for a proof, you associate the proof with a specific Basecamp project in your account. ProofHQ then sends the reviewers a message in Basecamp with a miniproof. They can open the message to review the miniproof in ProofHQ without leaving Basecamp; see Basecamp - reviewing a proof.

To connect a proof to a Basecamp project, do one of the following:

NB: As a proof owner, you MUST copy your personal Basecamp API token into your ProofHQ Personal Settings before you can add any proof to a Basecamp project. For an overview of Basecamp integration with ProofHQ, see Basecamp.

After adding a proof to a Basecamp project, you can use the proof notification email to view the proof in ProofHQ or the Basecamp message to view the proof in Basecamp.

Add a new proof to a Basecamp project

To add a proof to a Basecamp project from the New proof page:
  • Go to the New proof page
  • Click Add files or Use the desktop uploader to upload the proof
  • Select the Add proof to: Basecamp tick box (above the Share section).
  • Two additional Basecamp fields are displayed: Make proof private in Basecamp and Basecamp project (select the Make proof Private in Basecamp tick box if you want only people on your Basecamp account to be able to view the proof in Basecamp)
  • Select the Basecamp project from the drop down list (the default is No Basecamp project selected)
  • The Message category field and the list of people (including you) on your Basecamp account are displayed - select a category from the drop down list or leave the default (the default category is No message category)
  • Select the tick boxes for the reviewers in your Basecamp account that you want to review this proof - the selected reviewers will receive a message in Basecamp* for this proof and also an email notification from ProofHQ
  • Complete the rest of the New proof page as normal (see Creating a new proof)
* Select your own name if you also want to receive the message in Basecamp

You can access the Basecamp message and miniproof from the Proof Details page by clicking the link to your Basecamp project and proof in the Basecamp field on the Proof Details page.

NB: If you do not have a Basecamp session open in another browser window, you must sign in to your Basecamp account before you can see the message in Basecamp.

Use the proof notification email to view the proof

If you link a new or existing proof to Basecamp, ProofHQ will send a proof notification email and a Basecamp message with the miniproof to all reviewers on the proof.

When a new proof has been added to a Basecamp project, ProofHQ does the following:

1. Sends the proof creator, a Proof made email containing both ProofHQ and Basecamp links to the proof along with the initial progress information:
  • The Go to proof link and the Team URL link both take you to the Proof page in ProofHQ.
  • The Basecamp project link takes you to the project message and miniproof in Basecamp.
Note: If you do not have a Basecamp session open in another browser window, you must sign in to your Basecamp account before you can see the message in Basecamp.

2. Sends each Basecamp reviewer a proof notification email containing your note to all reviewers and a link to the Basecamp project message and miniproof.

When an existing proof is added to a Basecamp project, ProofHQ also sends Basecamp reviewers a proof notification email.

Note: Basecamp reviewers can use the Go to Proof link to open the proof directly in ProofHQ only if they are also ProofHQ users.

3. Sends Basecamp reviewers a message (in the name of the proof creator) in Basecamp containing a miniproof which the reviewers can use to make their comments, markups and decisions. Using links in the message, they can also display the full ProofHQ proof page (see Basecamp - reviewing a proof.) If you selected your own name as a reviewer in the Share section of the New proof page, you also receive the message and miniproof in Basecamp.

When an existing proof is added to a Basecamp project, ProofHQ also sends a message in Basecamp containing a miniproof. If you selected your own name as a reviewer on the Setup integration page from the Proof Details page, you also receive the message and miniproof in Basecamp.

4. Sends any non-Basecamp reviewers also added to the proof a proof notification email in your name with only the ProofHQ link to the proof.

NB: When any user opens a proof in ProofHQ that has been added to a Basecamp project, the proof page (shown below) always contains a Go to Basecamp link in the top right corner, just as it does for a Basecamp user opening the full proof from the Basecamp message. However, this link works only for a ProofHQ user who is also a Basecamp user and can sign in to the Basecamp account from ProofHQ. The same Go to Basecamp link is displayed when a Basecamp user chooses to view the full-page proof from the Basecamp message.

To see the message and miniproof that reviewers receive in Basecamp, see Basecamp - reviewing a proof.

Use the Basecamp message to view the proof

As soon as you connect a new proof or an existing proof with your Basecamp project, a message is sent by ProofHQ to your Basecamp account. You and other users in your Basecamp account can view the message and miniproof by going to the Messages section of your Basecamp account. You can add comments, mark-ups and make decisions on the proof using the miniproof shown in the message, or you can display the full-screen proof page to review the proof just as you would in ProofHQ.
