Introduction to reviewing proofs in Basecamp using ProofHQ

Basecamp integration with ProofHQ makes it easy for you to review and approve proofs in ProofHQ without leaving Basecamp! You don't even need a ProofHQ login to use all of the review tools to make comments and decisions on proofs:
  • The proof owner sends your project review team a message in Basecamp with a miniproof for your review
  • You add comments, markups and make decisions on the miniproof or switch to the full-page proof for review if you prefer
  • You can also edit or delete your comments and markups
  • You can see and respond to the comments and markups of the other team members
  • If a decision requires changes to the proof, the proof owner makes the changes and submits a new version of the proof for review in a new Basecamp message to your team

Proof review notification

When a proof is ready for you to review in Basecamp, ProofHQ sends you two messages from the proof owner: 

1. A proof notification email containing a link to the Basecamp project and message 
 

Basecamp message with the miniproof to review

If the Basecamp message isn't displayed immediately when you click the Basecamp project link in the proof review notification email, select the message from your project message list on the Dashboard.
 
 
 
 
The miniproof in the Basecamp message provides all the tools you need to add comments, mark-ups and make decisions on the proof without leaving this message page. There is no need to send a response to the message. 
 
NB: The comment box shown below the miniproof on the message page applies ONLY to the message itself. To submit review comments, you must use the comments icon button in the top left corner of the miniproof or the larger Comments button in the top left corner of the full-page proof.
 
 

Review the miniproof 

To review the miniproof within the Basecamp message:
  • Click the comments icon button in the top left corner of the miniproof to display an Add Comment box for entering a comment and to see the review tools available to you for marking up the proof. Move your cursor over a tool to see a description.
 
  • Use the selected tool to mark up the miniproof and then click in the Add Comment box to type your comment. You can move the miniproof or the comment box around freely as needed. Click Save to save the comment and the markup.
 
 
  • Your markup is saved along with your numbered comment.
 
 
  • The comment is identified by a number in the sidebar. A pin on the proof also contains the associated comment number. To display the comment, select it from the sidebar or click the pin on the proof.
 
 
  • If the comment you display is your own, you can edit it, delete it, or add another comment. If you delete the comment, the associated markup is also deleted.

    If a comment was added by another reviewer, you can respond to it but not edit or delete it. The related comments are kept together, simplifying the resolution process for the proof owner.

  • To make a decision, click the decision icon button. Select a Decision and click Confirm decision.

If you prefer working with a larger proof page, you can review the full-page proof.  

Review the full-page proof

You can display the full-page proof with all of the ProofHQ review, navigation tools and menus instead of the miniproof by clicking either the link in the message just above the miniproof or the fullscreen icon in the top right corner of the miniproof. The proof image is still the original size, but the page itself is wider than the miniproof page.
 
 
The full-page proof:
  • Shows the Add comments and Submit decision buttons rather than the comments and decision icons shown on the miniproof
  • Shows more zooming and navigation tools than the miniproof

To return to the miniproof, just click Go to Basecamp in the top right corner of the proof.

From the miniproof or the full-page proof, click the Help button to see the menu of Help items. Select Knowledge Base to search the entire ProofHQ Help system.
